Our Night Nav Courses take place in Snowdonia National Park. They are perfect for people wanting to take their map reading to the next level or those who are doing their Mountain Leader training.

Night Nav Course description
This course is ideal for those who want to improve their navigation skills in poor visibility and at night.
You will focus on:
- Micro Navigation
- Taking and following a bearing
- Pacing to measure distance
- Timings to measure distance (Naysmiths rule)
- Interpreting features in the dark
- Handrailing techniques
- Aiming off
- Tick off features & Catching features
Who is the Night Nav Course for?
This course is perfect for advanced navigators such as Mountain Leader Trainees who want to put their micro nav to the test with zero visibility.
You should know how to take a compass bearing and measure distances with pacing and timing. If this is something you are unfamiliar with then consider booking onto one of our Beginners Map Reading Courses
What equipment do I need for the Night Nav course?
A headtorch or torch with spare batteries is required as well as normal hiking gear including walking boots, a waterproof jacket, and a rucksack.
We will send you a detailed kit list upon booking and again shortly before the event. We will be providing maps and compasses but please feel free to bring your own.
We can give you advice about what to buy if you have booked onto one of our courses.
Instructors
All of our instructors are fully qualified Mountain Leaders with a minimum of a 16 hour First Aid certificate. All participants are covered by our Public Liability Insurance.
