Snowdon Sunrise Walk description
The Snowdon Sunrise Walk starts in the village of Llanberis. Under a canopy of stars (hopefully) you will start the walk up the Llanberis Path. As you ascend, you will see the first glow of sunrise on the horizon. After a leisurely walk and a few breaks you will reach the summit of Snowdon with plenty of time to watch one of natures most spectacular displays over the mountains of Snowdonia. After watching the Snowdon sunsrise you will walk down the popular Llanberis Path before it gets busy.
Snowdonia has been awarded the 'International Dark Sky Reserve' status so you will get a rare and unique view of billions of stars splashed across the night sky. On a clear dawn, the views and the photos of the sunrise over Snowdonia will be incredible.
This is a popular walk and experienced hikers often choose to come with us because of the challenges and difficulty of navigating in the dark.
Our guides are fully qualified, trained, and experienced in navigating at night and know the mountain like the back of their hands.
What's different about a Snowdon Sunrise?
Navigating in the dark is much more difficult than during the day and that's why many people choose to have a guided sunrise hike on Snowdon.
In terms of walking difficulty, it is very similar to the daytime. Obviously, you will have less visibility on the way up but you will be fresh and excited. With your head torch, and the combined light of the guides and other hikers you will be able to see the footpath and any trip hazards. The mountain guide will keep you safe and make you aware of the hazards at the appropriate times.
The only additional items you will need are a headtorch with spare batteries. We would recommend a headtorch over a handheld torch as you won't have to carry it for hours and the light beam is directed where you are looking. That said, if you don't have a head torch and don't want to go out and buy one then a handheld torch will do the job. Just make sure you have good gloves, plus a spare pair if it's raining.
Watching the sunrise over Snowdonia from the summit of Snowdon is amazing. Join one of our Guided Walks to witness this magical experience.
